वृषारूढ़ां शूलधरां शैलपुत्रीं यशस्विनीम् ॥
शैलपुत्री देवी दुर्गा का प्रथम रूप है। वह पर्वतों के राजा – हिमालय की पुत्री हैं। राजा हिमालय और उनकी पत्नी मेनका ने कड़ी तपस्या की जिसके फल स्वरुप माता दुर्गा उनकी पुत्री के रूप में पृथ्वी पर उतरी। तभी उनका नाम शैलपुत्री रखा गया यानी (शैल = पर्वत और पुत्री = बेटी)। माता शैलपुत्री का वाहन बैल है तथा उनके दायें हाँथ में त्रिशूल और बाएं हाँथ में कमल का फूल होता है ।
दक्ष यज्ञ में पवित्र माँ ने सती के रूप में अपने शरीर को त्याग दिया। उसके पश्चात माँ दोबारा भगवान शिव जी की दिव्य पत्नी बनी। उनकी कहानी बहुत ही प्रेरणा देती है।
मां दुर्गा को सर्वप्रथम शैलपुत्री के रूप में पूजा जाता है। नवरात्रि में दुर्गा पूजा के अवसर पर नौ रूपों की पूजा-उपासना बहुत ही विधि विधान से की जाती है। इन रूपों के पीछे तात्विक अवधारणाओं का परिज्ञान, धार्मिक, सांस्कृतिक और सामाजिक विकास के लिए अतिआवश्यक है।
मां शैलपुत्री की कहानी
एक बार जब प्रजापति ने यज्ञ किया तो इसमें सारे देवताओं को निमंत्रित किया, परन्तु भगवान शंकर को निमंत्रित नहीं किया । सती यज्ञ में जाने के लिए विकल हो उठीं। शंकरजी ने कहा कि सारे देवताओं को निमंत्रित किया गया है,
उन्हें नहीं। ऐसे में वहां जाना उचित नहीं है।
माँ सिद्धिदात्री
की कहानी
सती का प्रबल आग्रह देखकर शंकरजी ने उन्हें यज्ञ में जाने की अनुमति दे दी। सती जब घर पहुंचीं तो सिर्फ मां ने ही उन्हें स्नेह दिया।
बहनों की बातों में व्यंग्य और उपहास के भाव थे। भगवान शंकर के प्रति भी तिरस्कार के भाव थे। दक्ष ने भी उनके प्रति अपमानजनक वचन कहे। इससे सती को दुःख पहुंचा।
वे अपने पति का यह अपमान न सह सकीं और योगाग्नि द्वारा अपने को जलाकर भस्म कर लिया। इस दारुण दुख से व्यथित होकर शंकर भगवान ने उस यज्ञ का विध्वंस कर दिया।
यही सती अगले जन्म में शैलराज हिमालय की पुत्री के रूप में जन्मीं और शैलपुत्री कहलाईं। शैलपुत्री का विवाह भी भगवान शंकर से हुआ। शैलपुत्री शिवजी की अर्द्धांगिनी बनीं।
पार्वती और हेमवती भी इसी देवी के अन्य नाम हैं। हिमालय के यहां पुत्री के रूप में जन्म लेने के कारण उनका नामकरण हुआ शैलपुत्री। इनका वाहन वृषभ है, इसलिए यह देवी वृषारूढ़ा के नाम से भी जानी जाती हैं। इनका महत्व और शक्ति अनंत है।
इस देवी ने दाएं हाथ में त्रिशूल धारण कर रखा है और बाएं हाथ में कमल सुशोभित है। यही देवी प्रथम दुर्गा हैं। ये ही सती के नाम से भी जानी जाती हैं।

Shailputri
is the first form of Goddess Durga. She is the daughter of the king of the
mountains - the Himalayas. King Himalaya and her wife Meneka underwent severe
penance, as a result of which Maa Durga descended on the earth as their
daughter. Then she was named Shailputri i.e. (Shail = mountain and daughter =
daughter). The vehicle of Mata Shailputri is bull and there is trident in her
right hand and lotus flower in the left hand.
In the
Daksha Yajna, the holy Maa sacrificed her body as Sati. After that, the Maa
again became the divine wife of Lord Shiva. Her story is very inspiring.
Maa Durga is
first worshiped as Shailputri. On the occasion of Durga Puja in Navaratri, nine
forms of worship are worshiped with the help of very lawful legislation. The
understanding of the elemental concepts behind these forms is essential for
religious, cultural and social development.
Story of Maa Shailputri
Once when
Prajapati performed a yajna, he invited all the gods in it but did not invite
Lord Shankar. Sati woke up to go to the yagna. Shankarji said that all the gods
have been invited, not them. In such a situation, it is not appropriate to go
there.
Seeing
Sati's strong request, Shankarji allowed her to go to the yagna. When Sati
reached home, only her Maa gave her affection.
There was a
sense of sarcasm and ridicule among the sisters. There were also feelings of
disgust towards Lord Shankar. Daksha also made derogatory words towards him.
Sati was saddened by the.
She could
not bear the insult of her husband and burnt herself by yogagni. Distressed by
the Darun's sorrow, Lord Shankar destroyed the sacrifice.
The Sati
was born in the next life as the daughter of Shailraj Himalaya and called
Shailputri. Shailputri was also married to Lord Shankar. Shailputri became the
ardhangini of Shiva.
Parvati and
Hemavati is also another name of the goddess. She was named Shailputri after
being born as a daughter here in the Himalayas. Their vehicle is Taurus, hence
it is also known as Goddess Vrisharuda. Their importance and power is endless.
The goddess is holding a trident in the right
hand and the lotus is adorned in the left hand. The Goddess is the first Durga.
She is also known as Sati.
