माँ कालरात्रि, दुर्गा का सातवां रूप हैं। उनका नाम काल रात्रि इसलिए है क्योंकि वह काल का भी विनाश हैं। वह सब कुछ विनाश कर सकती हैं। कालरात्रि का अर्थ है अन्धकार की रात। उनका रंग काला होता है उनके बाल बिखरे और उड़ते हुए होते हैं। उनका शरीर अग्नि के सामान तेज़ होता है।
उनका वाहन गर्दभ है और ऊपर दाहिने हाथ से वह आशीर्वाद देती मुद्रा में होती हैं और निचले दाहिने हाथ में माँ निडरता प्रदान करती है। उनके ऊपर बाएं हाथ में गदा और निचले बाएं हाथ में लोहे की कटार रखती हैं।
उनका वाहन गर्दभ है और ऊपर दाहिने हाथ से वह आशीर्वाद देती मुद्रा में होती हैं और निचले दाहिने हाथ में माँ निडरता प्रदान करती है। उनके ऊपर बाएं हाथ में गदा और निचले बाएं हाथ में लोहे की कटार रखती हैं।
उनका प्रचंड रूप बहुत भयानक है परन्तु वह अपने भक्तों की हमेशा मदद करती है । उनकी पूजा करने से भूत, सांप, आग, बाढ़ और भयानक जानवरों के भय से मुक्ति मिलती है।
नाम से अभिव्यक्त होता है कि मां दुर्गा की यह सातवीं शक्ति कालरात्रि के नाम से जानी जाती है अर्थात जिनके शरीर का रंग घने अंधकार की तरह एकदम काला है। नाम से ही जाहिर है कि इनका रूप भयानक है। सिर के बाल बिखरे हुए हैं और गले में विद्युत की तरह चमकने वाली माला है। अंधकारमय स्थितियों का विनाश करने वाली शक्ति हैं कालरात्रि। काल से भी रक्षा करने वाली यह शक्ति है।
देवी के तीन नेत्र हैं। ये तीनों ही नेत्र ब्रह्मांड के समान गोल हैं। इनकी सांसों से अग्नि निकलती रहती है। ये गर्दभ की सवारी करती हैं। ऊपर उठे हुए दाहिने हाथ की वर मुद्रा भक्तों को वर देती है। दाहिनी ही तरफ का नीचे वाला हाथ अभय मुद्रा में है। यानी भक्तों हमेशा निडर, निर्भय रहो।
बाईं तरफ के ऊपर वाले हाथ में लोहे का कांटा तथा नीचे वाले हाथ में खड्ग है। इनका रूप भले ही भयंकर हो लेकिन ये सदैव शुभ फल देने वाली मां हैं। इसीलिए ये शुभंकरी कहलाईं अर्थात् इनसे भक्तों को किसी भी प्रकार से भयभीत या आतंकित होने की कतई आवश्यकता नहीं। उनके साक्षात्कार से भक्त पुण्य का भागी बनता है।
कालरात्रि की उपासना करने से ब्रह्मांड की सारी सिद्धियों के दरवाजे खुलने लगते हैं और तमाम असुरी शक्तियां उनके नाम के उच्चारण से ही भयभीत होकर दूर भागने लगती हैं। इसलिए दानव, दैत्य, राक्षस और भूत-प्रेत उनके स्मरण से ही भाग जाते हैं।
ये ग्रह बाधाओं को भी दूर करती हैं और अग्नि, जल,
जंतु, शत्रु और रात्रि भय दूर हो जाते हैं। इनकी कृपा से भक्त हर तरह के भय से मुक्त हो जाता है।

Maa Kalratri is the seventh form of Durga. Her name is KaalRatri
because she is also the destruction of Kaal. She can destroy everything.
Kalratri means the night of darkness. Their color is black, their hair is
scattered and flying. Their body is fast like fire.
Her vehicle is Neddy and in the top right hand she is in a
blessing posture and the lower right hand provides fearlessness. She holds mace
in her left hand and iron skewer in her lower left hand.
Her fierce form is very terrible, but she always helps her
devotees. Worshiping them gives freedom from the fear of ghosts, snakes, fire,
floods and terrible animals.
The name expresses that there seventh power of Maa Durga is
known as Kalratri, i.e. whose body color is very dark like dense darkness. It
is obvious from the name itself that their form is terrible. Head hair is
scattered and there is a garland shining like lightning in the throat. Kalratri
is the power that destroys dark conditions. It is also a power to protect from
time.
The goddess has three eyes. All three eyes are round like the
universe. Their breath keeps the fire coming out. She rides the Neddy. The upward right hand gives
blessings to the devotees. The right hand lower hand is in the abhaya mudra.
That is, devotees should always be fearless.
The left hand has an iron fork in the top hand and the bottom
hand has a khadg. Their form may be terrible, but they are always a Maa giving
auspicious results. That is why these are called Shubhankari, meaning that
there is no need for the devotees to be afraid or terrorized in any way. The
devotee participates in the virtue of her interview.
By worshiping Kalratri, the doors of all the powers of
the universe are opened and all the demonic powers start running away fearful
with the utterance of their name. Therefore demons and ghosts flee from their
memory.
These planets also remove obstacles and
fire, water, animals, enemies and night terrors are overcome. With her grace,
the devotee is freed from all kinds of fears.
