माँ दुर्गा का आठवां रूप है महागौरी। देवी पार्वती का रंग सावला था और इसी कारण महादेव शिवजी उन्हें कालिके के नाम से पुकारा करते थे। बाद में माता पार्वती ने तपस्या किया जिसके कारण शिवजी प्रसन्न हुए और उन्होंने गंगा के जल को माता पार्वती के ऊपर डाल कर उन्हें गोरा रंग दिया। तब से माता पार्वती को महागौरी के नाम से पूजा जाने लगा।
उनका वाहन बैल है और उनके उपरी दाहिने हाथ से माँ आशीर्वाद वरदान देती है, और निचले दाहिने हाथ में त्रिशूल रखती है। उपरी बाएं हाथ में उनके डमरू होता है और निचले हाथ से वह वरदान और आशीर्वाद देती हैं।
महागौरी की पूजा आराधना करने वाले भक्तों को भ्रम से मुक्ति, जीवन में दुख कष्ट का अंत होता है।
नवरात्रि में आठवें दिन महागौरी शक्ति की पूजा की जाती है। नाम से प्रकट है कि इनका रूप पूर्णतः गौर वर्ण है। इनकी उपमा शंख, चंद्र और कुंद के फूल से दी गई है।
अष्टवर्षा भवेद् गौरी यानी इनकी आयु आठ साल की मानी गई है। इनके सभी आभूषण और वस्त्र सफेद हैं। इसीलिए उन्हें श्वेताम्बरधरा कहा गया है। इनकी 4 भुजाएं हैं और वाहन वृषभ है इसीलिए वृषारूढ़ा भी कहा गया है ।
इनके ऊपर वाला दाहिना हाथ अभय मुद्रा है तथा नीचे वाला हाथ त्रिशूल धारण किया हुआ है। ऊपर वाले बाँये हाथ में डमरू धारण कर रखा है और नीचे वाले हाथ में वर मुद्रा है।
इनकी पूरी मुद्रा बहुत शांत है। पति रूप में शिव को प्राप्त करने के लिए महागौरी ने कठोर तपस्या की थी। इसी वजह से इनका शरीर काला पड़ गया लेकिन तपस्या से प्रसन्न होकर भगवान शिव ने इनके शरीर को गंगा के पवित्र जल से धोकर कांतिमय बना दिया। उनका रूप गौर वर्ण का हो गया। इसीलिए ये महागौरी कहलाईं।
ये अमोघ फलदायिनी हैं और इनकी पूजा से भक्तों के तमाम कल्मष धुल जाते हैं। पूर्वसंचित पाप भी नष्ट हो जाते हैं। महागौरी का पूजन-अर्चन, उपासना-आराधना कल्याणकारी है। इनकी कृपा से अलौकिक सिद्धियां भी प्राप्त होती हैं।

Mahagauri is the eighth form of Maa Durga. The color of
Goddess Parvati was Dark Colour and that is why Mahadev Shiva called her as
Kalike. Later, Mata Parvati did penance due to which Shiva was pleased and she
put Ganga water on Mata Parvati and gave her a fair complexion. Since then,
Mata Parvati came to be known as Mahagauri.
Their vehicle is a bull and with their upper right hand the Maa
blesses, and holds the trident in the lower right hand. In the upper left hand
is her damru and with the lower hand she gives blessings.
The worshipers of Mahagauri worship the devotees to get rid
of confusion, end of suffering and misery in life.
Mahagauri Shakti is worshiped on the eighth day in Navratri.
It appears from the name that their form is completely Gaur Varna. Her metaphor
is given by conch, moon and blunt flowers.
Ashtavarsha Bhaveda Gauri means her age is eight years.
All their jewelry and clothes are white. That is why they have been called
Shwetambardhara. They have 4 arms and the vehicle is Taurus hence that is also
called Vrishrudha.
The right hand above them is Abhaya Mudra and the lower hand
is holding the trident. The left hand is holding the damru and the lower hand holds the blessing posture.
Her entire posture is very quiet. Mahagauri underwent a
rigorous penance to attain Shiva as a husband. Due to the, her body turned
black but pleased with austerity, Lord Shiva made her body radiant by washing her
body with the holy water of the Ganges. Her look became of the fair complexion.
That is why it was called Mahagauri.
These are infallible fruits and their worship dissolves all
the Kalmash of the devotees. Undesirable sins are also destroyed. Worshiping
and worshiping Mahagauri is beneficial. Supernatural attainments are also
attained by her grace.
