Tulsi Vivah ( Marriage )
Tulsi Vivah ( Marriage ) |
Tulsi
ji has been called "Vishnu Priya" in Hindu Puranas. Use of Tulsi
party i.e. Tulsi leaves are considered mandatory in the worship of Vishnu.
Without it, the worship of Vishnu is considered incomplete. Both are seen as
husband and wife in Hinduism. It is customary to have Tulsi Vivah married on
the day of Kartik Shukla Ekadashi.
In
Tulsi marriage, the Tulsi plant and the idol of Vishnu or Shaligram stone are
married in full Vedic form.
Method
of Tulsi Vivah ( Marriage )
According
to Padma Purana, it is auspicious to perform Tulsi marriage on Ekadashi. Tulsi
Vivah Vidhi is very simple and the native can do it on his own if he wishes.
To
complete Tulsi marriage, one should fast on Ekadashi and install the idol of
Vishnu with Tulsi in the house. The basil plant and the idol of Vishnu should
be decorated with yellow clothes. Yellow is the favorite color of Vishnu.
For
a Tulsi marriage, a basil plant should be decorated and a cane canopy around
it. Chunari or Odhni should be offered on the Tulsi Ji plant. After this, the
rituals of Tulsi marriage should be performed in the same way as the customs of
a marriage.
If
desired, Tulsi marriage can also be duly performed with the help of a Pandit or
a Brahmin, otherwise a Tulsi marriage can also be done with the mantracharan
(oom Tulasai Nam :).
On the day of Dwadashi, one should worship Tulsi and Vishnu again and fast. It is
auspicious to eat basil leaves by melting or breaking them automatically after
a meal. On this day, eating the fruits of sugarcane, amla, and plum, all the
sins of the person are destroyed.
Note:
It is rare to find a black stone idol of Shaligram idol i.e. Vishnu. If this is
not found, the person can also use the image or picture of Vishnu.
