According to the Chhath Hindu Panchang, the unique festival of unwavering faith of the devotees towards Lord Suryadev is celebrated from Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha to Saptami Tithi of Kartik month. Chhath Puja or Surya Shashti is an ancient Hindu festival in which gratitude is given to the Sun God for maintaining life on earth. The Sun, which is considered as the god of energy and vitality, is worshiped during Chhath festival to promote goodness, prosperity, and progress. It is believed that sun worship can cure various types of diseases including leprosy and ensure the longevity and prosperity of family members friends and elders.







Surya Sashti or Chhath Puja ritual

Wake up early on this day and bathe in a lake, pond or river near your house.

After bathing, stand on the banks of the river and worship the sun during sunrise.

Light a lamp of pure ghee and offer sun and flowers to the sun.

Offer water containing seven types of flowers, rice, sandalwood, sesame, etc. to the sun.

Say "Om Grihwani Surya Namah" or "Om Surya Namah" 108 times while bowing the head.

You can continue chanting the name of Lord Surya throughout the day.

Provide food to Brahmins and poor people according to their ability.

Chhath fast story

Celebrated just six days after Diwali ( Deepawali ), the most difficult night of this Mahavrat and the most important night for seekers is Kartik Shukla Shishti, due to which the name of this supreme holy fast of Hindus is Chhath (Chhath Puja). This unique mahaparva of Suryopasana celebrated for four days, is celebrated with great pomp and gaiety mainly in the whole of India including Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh.

Although many stories are prevalent in the context of this festival of goodwill and worship, but according to mythological scriptures, when the Pandavas lost all their kingship in gambling, Draupadi kept the fast of Chhath, consequently the Pandavas got their kingship.

Chhath Vrat Method

According to the legend, Chhath Devi is the sister of Lord Suryadev and in order to please them, devotees worship and thank God Surya and celebrate this worship on the banks of Mother Ganga-Yamuna or any river.









In this festival, on the first-day cleanliness of the house and pure vegetarian food is done, on the second day there is a program of Kharna, on the third day Sandhya Arghya is offered to Lord Surya and on the fourth day the devotees offer Usha Arghya to the rising sun. It is believed that if one performs this Mahavrata faithfully and methodically, then the child gets freedom from the child and the creature get freedom from all kinds of sufferings and sins.

Chhath Mahaparva is an important festival of North India, especially UP and Bihar. Today it will not be wrong to say that this festival is celebrated with equal reverence and gaiety in India. The Chhath festival begins with a bath and ends with an arghya offered to the sun god. In this festival of four days, two things attract everyone in the matter of eating, one is Thekua and the other is Rasiava or Rasiya which is jaggery kheer.
