The festival of Dhanteras is celebrated on Kartik Krishna Trayodashi. On this day people worship Lord Dhanvantari and light a lamp for Yamraj. Dhanteras is also known as Dhantrayodashi. The festival of Dhanteras is also celebrated as the birthday of the god of Ayurveda.






Dhanteras Puja Vidhi

According to Skandpuran, the fear of premature death ends by giving a lamp to Yamraj at the door of the house in Kartik Krishna Trayodashi during Pradoshkal. On this day, the whole law is the law to worship Goddess Lakshmi and Kubera, the god of wealth (Dhanteras Puja Vidhi). It is believed that on this day worshiping Lakshmi Ji during Pradoshkal, she stays at home.









Dhanteras mantra

This mantra should be recited during lamp donation:
मृत्युना पाशदण्डाभ्यां कालेन च मया सह।
त्रयोदश्यां दीपदानात सूर्यज: प्रीयतामिति॥
The meaning of this mantra is:
Suryanandanam Yama should be pleased with death, loop, punishment, Kaal and Lakshmi by donating the Trayodashi. Lakshmi Ji is also pleased by this mantra.








Shopping on Dhanteras

Many people also worship Lakshmi and Kuber Ji on this day. It is believed that by worshiping Lakshmi and Kubera Ji on this day, a man never lacks wealth. Shopping on this day is considered auspicious. Shopping of utensils and ornaments etc. is done on this day. It is considered auspicious to buy the following things on this day:

• Silver Lakshmi-Ganesh idol
• Statue of Kubera
• Lakshmi or Shri Yantra
• Kauri and Kamal Gatta
